Al via i Campionati Europei di Canoa Slalom. Cerimonia di apertura da dimenticare!

I Campionati Europei che partiranno domani con le gare a squadre hanno il sapore della rivincita olimpica per tutti gli atleti del Vecchio Continente. Inutile negarlo l’attesa è notevole e per tanti atleti tornare su quel bacino a Vaires-sur-Marne assume proprio il sapore delle vendetta! Per chi invece non ci sarà, ma c’è stato poco meno di 10 mesi fa,  la gara si tinge di giallo: chi avrà la meglio sul bacino olimpico, oggi spoglio e senza tribune, ma con l’acqua che diventa la vera protagonista di questa sfida? 

Ufficialmente la manifestazione si è aperta con la cerimonia d’apertura di mercoledì 14 maggio allo stadio della canoa e ha avuto un solo lato positivo: la sua brevità! Dall’altro lato  definirla imbarazzante e puerile sarebbe usare degli aggettivi anche  troppo clementi tanto  è stata disarmante per il nostro sport!  Gli atleti, schierati  sulla tribuna laterale, hanno avuto il solo scopo di fare presenza e ascoltare quei due politici che hanno speso inutili parole. Rispettare la dignità degli atleti e delle squadre dovrebbe essere diktat imprescindibile per chi organizza un evento così importante e invece non c’è stato nessun rispetto al riguardo! Altra nota negativa i 160 euro di tassa di iscrizione per ogni accredito... mai stata così alta! 

Come ormai è consuetudine si inizierà con  le gare a squadre su manche unica, nella giornata di oggi 15 maggio, una botta e via per entrare nel clima gara. Un riscaldamento speciale che regalerà  pure delle medaglie che, se pur contino poco ai fini personali, contano viceversa come squadra e come feeling per affrontare al meglio le gare individuali che di tutt’altra pasta sono forgiate. L’unico dubbio che ci poteva essere  per la squadra Italiana era sui nomi di chi sarebbe sceso in acqua nel kayak maschile visto che gli azzurri al via hanno 4 atleti. Quindi dalle start list si deduce che partiranno: Giovanni De Gennaro, Xabi Ferrazzi e Marcello Beda. Il più giovane Michele Pistoni esordirà in gara solo a partire da venerdì.

The European Championships, which will begin tomorrow with the team events, carry the flavor of Olympic revenge for all the athletes from the Old Continent. Let’s not deny it—expectations are high, and for many, returning to that course in Vaires-sur-Marne has the distinct taste of payback! For those who won’t be there this time, but were there less than 10 months ago, the competition takes on a mysterious twist: who will come out on top on the Olympic course, now bare and without grandstands, but with the water itself becoming the true protagonist of this challenge?

Officially, the event kicked off today with the opening ceremony at the canoe stadium, and it had only one redeeming quality: its brevity! On the flip side, calling it embarrassing and childish would be putting it kindly—it was truly disheartening for our sport. The athletes, lined up in the side stands, were there merely as spectators, listening to two politicians deliver meaningless speeches. Respecting the dignity of the athletes and the teams should be a non-negotiable standard for anyone organizing such a major event—yet there was no respect shown at all!

As is now customary, the competition will begin with single-run team events—a quick burst to set the competitive tone. It’s a special kind of warm-up that will also award medals which, while not highly significant individually, do matter for the team and for building momentum ahead of the individual races, which are an entirely different kind of challenge.

The only uncertainty for the Italian team was about the lineup for the men’s kayak event, since four Italian athletes are competing. Based on the start list, we can deduce that Giovanni De Gennaro, Xabi Ferrazzi, and Marcello Beda will race. The youngest, Michele Pistoni, will make his debut starting Friday.
